It lives on as the writing system for several modern African languages, spoken by millions of people in Ethiopia, Eritrea, and beyond. These include Amharic, Tigrinya, and Gurage. Ge’ez is a unique, African writing system, which shares features with Arabic, Hindi, and even Japanese.
