Bio/Description

Colin Bos specializes in the history of science, material culture and law in West Africa. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University, where he received his Ph.D. in 2023. His current book project reconstructs the modern history of an important corpus of ancient African objects in Ilé-Ifẹ̀, a city in southwestern Nigeria. Bos has received funding from the Social Science Research Council and the Council on Library and Information Resources. His article, “John Augustus Abayomi Cole and the Search for an African Science, 1885-1898,” was published in the March 2022 issue of the history of science journal Isis. His teaching interests center on African and global histories of science, technology, medicine and material culture.
